Col. Thatcher did not arrive here as advertised because of the roads. Col. Thatcher may be excentric eccentric but no man has accomplished so much during the history of Charles Mix as did Col. Thatcher in the few weeks he was here in stimulating interest in good roads. Miles of roads have been worked without cost to the taxpayers by donation work through the energy and enthusiasm displayed by Mr. Thatcher, and this work inaugurated by him will continue until we have the very best of roads. The Col. may well be called the apostle of good roads and he does not ask for compensation for his labors, only that he be entertained at the towns in which he promotes the work. Think what you please of Col. Thatcher but remember that we shall have roads as a monument and a perpetual reminder of his splendid work among our people.
