GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS VIEW THE SPILLWAY HERE SUNDAY

Col. Peck and Major Higgins, connected with the forestry department at Denver were here Sunday consulting with state engineers on the completion of the lake spillway, on which work has ceased because of the lack of funds. The original contract called for the removal of 40,000 cubic feet of earth, with a leeway of 2500 yards. Already about 80,000 yards have been removed, and because of caveins, it is estimated that there remains nearly 90,000 yards to be removed before the work can be finished. The two dredging machines, operated by an Omaha contractor have been withdrawn from the work. The making of the tile continues as that contract was separate from the spillway digging and is being done by local labor.
