RECRUITS FOR WORK ON SPILLWAY SENT TO PIERRE

Up until Monday when a telegram from Ft. Meade ordering the cancellation of the recruits from Jefferson Barracks, Mo. to locate at Lake Andes for the construction of a spillway for our lake; it was thought work would start at once. Just why this company of negroes was shifted to Pierre has not been explained.

Relief Director W. L. Eales reports that the tentative date for estblishing establishing the camp here is next Wednesday, July 5th and that South Dakota veterans, insofar as possible, will be employed. Local laborers will assist in the work, especially in the making of tile for the spillway, truck drivers, grader operators and various other artisans.

The camp will be established at Amundson's resort and work will be under the control of army officers.
